October news from Christina Clegg your local financial adviser
- The number of tax payers leaving the UK has risen to almost 70,000 last year. Up 30% on the year before. This is a worry for HMRC and your local financial adviser!
- HSBC has announced that it is cutting 70% of its advisors (almost 300 staff). Despite having moved back into the financial advice market only back in late 2024 it now says that it is moving to a digital AI based approach for its clients. Do you want to be advised by AI only?
- Data from the Pensions Policy Institute (PPI) shows that there are up to 3 million pension policies which are lost. Where the pension holders contact details are incorrect. Over 2 million of those pensions are held by under 55’s, so there’s still time to check if you have any lost pensions. The average pension pot is around £5,000 in value.
- The UK economy grew by 0.1% in August.
- 1 million people a year now access their pensions for the first time. Only 30% of them talk to a financial adviser.
- Inflation increased to 3.5% in September. Up from 3.1% in August.
- Money App Plum has received authorisation from the FCA to offer targeted advice through its App using AI. This is the first AI based approval. Although customers will be protected because Plum is authorised by the FCA.
- According to the Office of National Statistics (ONS) there are now 16,400 people over the age of 100 years old. That’s double to number back in 2005. There are almost 650,000 over the age of 90 as well.
- Good news from the Money and Pensions Service (MPS) who estimate that 95% of pension records will be available through the pensions dashboard when it officially launches on the 31st October.
- 67% of people surveyed by Nucleus said that they had no idea about the upcoming changes to pensions and inheritance tax. So far, less than 4% of people had spoken to their financial advisor about protecting their pensions.
- More than 750,000 businesses in the UK are reported to be experiencing financial distress. That’s the highest number since records began back in 2004. Let’s hope the Chancellor can help in the budget.
What our customers have said about us
We are delighted that the Trust Pilot reviews continue to come in. For example, Steven very kindly posted the following:
- I approached Christina Clegg at an important and complicated point in my life, as I prepare for retirement and a permanent move abroad. I had several pensions and investments to understand, and I found much of the process overwhelming.Christina has been patient, approachable and extremely thorough. She has taken the time to gather all the relevant information, explain the available options clearly and answer my questions without making me feel rushed or pressured. I particularly appreciate her independent approach and the fact that she looks at my overall circumstances rather than simply trying to sell me a product.
There is still work to complete, but my experience with Christina so far has been very positive. I feel far more confident knowing that she is helping me put everything in order before I retire and leave the UK. I would happily recommend her to anyone who needs clear, professional and understanding financial guidance.
Meanwhile, William posted the following:
- I have never even considered thinking about Financial Advice I had a private Pension what else did i need. Well apparently, quite a lot, I was fortunate to find Throgmorton Capital Management on line and I spoke to a very knowledgeable & professional lady Christina Clegg. It was at this point that i realised that what i had planned for my future was simply not possible
Christina pointed out that while i had a pension it was totally unsuitable for what i wanted to do, the purpose of this post is to point out that the world of pensions and finance is an absolute minefield without expert advice you could find yourself nowhere near you hoped to be.
So all i can say is thank you for all the advice I’ve received and continue to receive it really has changed my life
Really powerful words from William, feedback like this makes us realise just how much difference we can make by providing good financial advice. It’s nice to be able to help people as a truly local financial adviser.
