Unfortunately, when you die, even when you have made a Will, your Executor will need to get a Grant of Probate.
If you have elected for a solicitor, or other professional to be an Executor in your Will, they will often charge you a percentage of your estate. This can be very expensive often up to 3% of your estates value – so for example a £300,000 estate could incur around £9000 in Probate costs. Or, they may charge you an hourly rate, which can often be over £200 an hour, plus VAT.
You do not need a solicitor to act for you to get a Grant of Probate. I have acted for a number of clients to provide this service.
I will agree with you in advance the hourly rate I will charge for this service, or I may agree to undertake the service on a Fixed Fee basis. Whichever way we agree to work it will almost certainly be at a much lower cost than a solicitor would charge for providing the same service.
The other advantage of using my services is that having provided you with regular advice as your IFA, I will already have an intimate knowledge of your financial circumstances and have built a relationship with you over time which means I will probably have to spend much less time than a solicitor would to provide you with the necessary services.
